Finance guru: Aston Villa have unearthed the ‘golden ticket’ amid behind-the-scenes NSWE reveal

Aston Villa may have unearthed the “golden ticket” to smashing the Premier League’s glass ceiling through their continued investment in their youth academy.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how Villa can bridge the Financial Fair Play divide through player trading.

Villa rising stars Carney Chukwuemeka, Tim Iroegbunam and Aaron Ramsey were all part of the Under-19 team that triumphed in the recent European Championship.

No team outside the so-called ‘Big Six’ has supplied the England youth setup with more players.

First-teamers Jacob Ramsey, Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Keinan Davis have also come through the academy products in recent years.

Per The Athletic last Thursday (7 July), Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris – who head up the NSWE ownership regime – are personally briefed with a rundown of their rising stars’ progress every international break.

Plumley explained how a prolific academy production line can help Villa gain ground on the Premier League’s elite in terms of their spending power under FFP.

“For the likes of Villa, it’s all about how you can do things differently to close the gap and compete on the pitch with the big teams,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Investment in the academy and playing talent is one way to do that.

For Villa, the player trading does seem like a good strategy that could work for them moving forward.

“It can be seen as a bit of a golden ticket. Others might follow in their footstep given the new FFP model we are headed for.”
