Aston Villa make up minds over Emiliano Buendia amid new PSR concerns

Aston Villa are making up their minds on Emiliano Buendia’s future amid new PSR concerns, sources have told Football Insider.

Concerns over players’ futures at the club have long plagued Unai Emery with Football Insider revealing that Man United are targeting Emiliano Martinez after missing out on him in January.

The Argentinian started in Villa’s 2-1 win over Burnley on 5 October yet there continues to be uncertainty over himself and compatriot Buendia at the club.

Sources told Football Insider during the summer transfer window that Buendia nearly joined Leeds after being seemingly frozen out of the squad, as the Spaniard weighs up what to do with him.

Emiliano Buendia contract situation to propel interest for Aston Villa winger in upcoming transfer windows

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Villains are contemplating offloading the ex-Norwich City man due to PSR issues as well as his contract expiring at the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Aston Villa could be forced to sell Rogers if they cannot resolve their ongoing concerns surrounding PSR.

The Argentina international could be sold to appease their financial constraints ahead of the upcoming transfer windows with clubs across Europe likely monitoring the ongoing situation.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over this unlikely scenario, I explained: “Look, I’m sure there’ll be other clubs who’ll be looking at Buendia’s situation as well, hoping that they might be able to capitalise on his contract situation.

“Villa need…Buendia. Obviously, we know they’ve had issues with PSR and FFP as well, so they won’t really want to weaken the squad because maybe they’re not able to bring in any replacements.

“So, I can see Buendia continue to get plenty of game time at Villa for the rest of season and I feel that Unai Emery feels he’s got a role to play as well.”

Morgan Rogers poor form will not change Aston Villa’s stance on selling him

The Englishman’s diabolical start to the 2025-26 season has opened the door to the Villains selling their most valuable asset in January.

The 23-year-old has only notched two assists in 10 appearances in all competitions yet, sources told Football Insider that Aston Villa will not sell Rogers in the January transfer window.

Moreover, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 26 September that Rogers is in talks over a new Aston Villa deal to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.

This shows the club are undeterred by the number 27’s slow start to the new campaign as they look to maintain the faith in one of the country’s rising stars.
