Aston Villa may be ready to sell Mings after source’s update – Mills
Danny Mills has suggested Steven Gerrard may be looking to sign an upgrade on Tyrone Mings for Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back claimed Mings has a mistake in him and Gerrard will want a player like Jamie Carragher at the heart of his defence.
A Villa source told Football Insider today (27 January) the club are closing in on a new defender signing.

It comes as talks progress with Juventus’ Rodrigo Bentancur as Gerrard wants to strengthen the spine of his side.
“I’ve said all along, Tyrone Mings is good but I always feel like there’s a little bit of a mistake in him, so he could go,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Steven Gerrard will have very high expectations of his players. He’s played with Carragher, he’s played with Hypia and some at England, he’ll know to be a successful side you need a very good defence. End of. There’s no argument about that in any way shape or form.
“He’s looking at what he needs to add. Maybe he can’t find it in the January transfer window and will have to wait until the summer.
“He’ll constantly be looking to improve his squad constantly. He’ll know more than most that if you want to be successful you have to have a very good defence.”

Aston Villa have already added Lucas Digne from Everton on a permanent deal and Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho on loan this month.
The Midlands giants currently sit 11th in the Premier League and are next in action against Leeds United on 9 February.
