Aston Villa news: Expert can’t believe Boubacar Kamara could force Douglas Luiz out after latest

Alex McLeish has claimed Douglas Luiz and John McGinn will not be leaving Aston Villa this summer despite the arrival of Boubacar Kamara.

The former Villa boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Steven Gerrard could in fact look to draft in “a couple” more midfielders as he targets a better finish next season.

Aston Villa confirmed on Monday (23 May) that Kamara has signed a five-year deal with the Midlands giants after completing a free transfer from French club Marseille.

This site revealed last month (7 April) that Gerrard’s side are plotting a summer move for Brighton midfield star Yves Bissouma.

90min updated on Tuesday (24 May), claiming Aston Villa’s pursuit of Bissouma is unaffected by the arrival of Kamara.

McLeish insisted Gerrard will want a wealth of midfield options going into next season after being left unimpressed by his first campaign in charge.

“I can’t see there being big changes to that midfield group in terms of outgoings,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“I quite like Douglas Luiz, he’s a very knowledgeable midfielder who knows how to put himself about.

“John McGinn, he’s been absolutely tremendous for Villa.

“But Stevie will be unhappy with this season. They were really up and down, and they’ve finished only 14th in the league.

“You look at that City game. 2-nil up and they really failed to see the game out or manage it properly.

“Gerrard will be trying to improve his strategy.

He’ll also want to bring in a couple of players who can better manage these games from the midfield to try and get up the table next season.”
