Medical expert: Bertrand Traore update is a ‘huge, huge worry’ for Aston Villa

Bertrand Traore’s latest injury setback is a “huge, huge worry” for Aston Villa.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Various muscle problems have restricted Traore, 26, to just 235 minutes of club football in 2021-22.

And as quoted by club media last Friday (22 April), Steven Gerrard revealed that Traore was set to undergo scans on a new groin injury.

This site revealed on 15 February that Villa will listen to offers for the Burkina Faso international this summer.

And Dinnery claims that yet another setback will do Traore no favours.

“It’s a massive concern,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“He came off the back of 2020-21 with almost 100 per cent availability. Then he had surgery over the summer on a groin problem.

“We always have to bang the drum about how the block of intensive training in pre-season helps to protect the body for the remainder of the season.

“It can’t be overstated how much that protects the body in terms of injury prevention. There are lots of studies that back this up.

“He missed all of that and now we have had setback after setback. We’ve had groin, thigh, and hamstring.

“But this is a huge concern. He is yet to be able to prove to Gerrard what he can do on the pitch. His focus must now be on pre-season.”

Traore started four of six games as Burkina Faso reached the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

He has not registered a goal or an assist in eight appearances for Villa this season.
