Aston Villa news: Pundit baffled by development that has left Steven Gerrard ‘furious’
It is too early to judge the work Steven Gerrard has done at Aston Villa despite the club’s poor form.
That’s according to former Villains hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s poor run of results.
Villa have only won one of their last eight games in all competitions, a run that sees them sat 12th in the Premier League.
On Saturday (19 February) Gerrard’s side lost 1-0 at home to relegation contenders Watford.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Gerrard admitted “we’ve been booed off today and we deserve that”.
McAvennie insists it is too early to judge Gerrard as he is yet to build his own squad.
“Villa have gone off the boil in the last few weeks,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“All of a sudden they have stopped winning. Gerrard sounds furious in every interview he’s done.
“I don’t know what’s happened but he started so well there. They aren’t beating the teams around them.
“A few weeks ago it was all positive and now they just can’t win. It’s a bit worrying.
“Obviously it’s not Gerrard’s team and there is work to be done.
“He needs to get his own players in, then you can judge him. I think that’s fair.”

Villa are next in action against Brighton on Saturday (26 February).
The Seagulls lose 3-0 to Burnley in their last outing.
