Aston Villa news: Pundit expects ‘surprise’ Jacob Ramsey development after what he’s seen
Kevin Campbell has claimed Jacob Ramsey is deserving of a “surprise” England call-up after his “absolutely brilliant” form for Aston Villa this term.
The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 20-year-old has the potential to become “even better”.
Ramsey has netted six goals and contributed one assist in 27 Aston Villa appearances this term – including a wonderful consolation strike against West Ham on Sunday (13 March).
The Birmingham-born midfielder has made two appearances in England’s under-21 side.
Gareth Southgate is expected to announce his Three Lions squad tomorrow with friendlies against scheduled against Switzerland and Ivory Coast later this month.
Campbell suggested Ramsey deserves the chance to “make a name for himself” on the international stage ahead of this year’s World Cup.
“I would like to see him get a surprise call-up,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“I think he’s been absolutely brilliant. Aston Villa have been under a lot of pressure this season, losing Jack Grealish and spending big – but they’ve done really well.
“Playing with Philippe Coutinho has helped him immensely – you can see that. But I think he could get even better, he’s capable of more.
“For Gareth Southgate to have a look at him in the squad is so important – he may not get this chance later in the season.
“It’s a chance for him to make a name for himself on that massive stage and impress ahead of the World Cup.”

Ramsey is under contract at Villa Park until June 2025.
Aston Villa sit ninth in the Premier League.
