Aston Villa news: Pundit verdict on Douglas Luiz quitting after confirmed news
Paul Robinson has urged Aston Villa to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of Douglas Luiz this summer despite the arrival of Boubacar Kamara.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Luiz, 24, is one of Steven Gerrard’s side’s “better players” and is needed next season.
On 23 May, Aston Villa announced the signing of Kamara from Marseille on a five-year deal.
The 22-year-old joins John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey, Marvelous Nakamba, Carney Chukwuemeka, Morgan Sanson and Douglas Luiz in the midfield ranks at Villa Park.
However, Luiz’s future is uncertain heading into the summer transfer window.
He has just over 12 months remaining on his contract with the Midlands club.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Kamara’s arrival suggests Luiz will leave Villa Park, Robinson said: “Villa need to keep Douglas Luiz.
“I know they have Kamara now but they still need to keep Luiz. He’s one of their better players.
“Villa slipped down the league and finished quite quietly. Luiz is a very good player. They need to keep him.
“Kamara is a top player. Has he been signed in the knowledge that others are leaving? You’d hope not because they need to keep Douglas Luiz.”

Luiz contributed two goals and three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign.
The centre-midfielder has been linked with a move to AS Roma.
In other news, a pundit has suggested the real reason why Aston Villa beat Newcastle and Arsenal to Kamara signing.
