Aston Villa news: Trezeguet has played his final game for club after confirmed news – Agbonlahor

Trezeguet is “not good enough” for Aston Villa and has no long-term future at the club, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict after the fans favourite moved to Istanbul Basaksehir on loan until the end of the season on Tuesday (8 February).

As quoted by Birmingham Live on the same day, Steven Gerrard insisted the Egypt international needed regular game time and a decision will be made on him in the summer.

The 27-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance this season after suffering a serious knee injury in April 2021.

“I said this two years ago, Trezegeut is not good enough for Aston Villa,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s an honest player who works hard but he’s very erratic. When he gets on the ball, he’ll put the wrong cross in and shoot at the wrong times.

“I’ve been saying it for a couple of years, Trezeguet is not good enough for where Aston Villa want to go. Steven Gerrard will have worked that out over the past few months.

“He’s never going to get you the goals and assists that you need if you’re trying to get into the top-six.

“He’s scored some important goals for Villa and the fans will always hold him in high regard.

“But he’s not the player Villa need, he’s just not good enough.

“It’s a shame for the likes of Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi. Gerrard will want better players who are going to take this club to the next level, he won’t want to stay still. I don’t think Trezeguet will play for Villa again.”

In other news, there has been a big update on Aston Villa signing Philippe Coutinho on a permanent deal.
