Aston Villa player ratings v Barnsley: Attacking ace is overrated
COMMENT by Amir Mir at Villa Park
Football Insider rates the players out of ten after Aston Villa fall to a 3-1 home defeat to Barnsley.
Sam Johnstone 5 – Made one very good save from a free kick, else you cannot blame him for the goals conceded.
Alan Hutton 7 – In a dismal Villa performance, the right-back was Villa’s best player which says a lot. Baffling why he was substituted.
James Chester 4 – His displays are becoming worrying, the Welshman needs to learn how to deal with danger in the penalty area and lead his line from the back.
Nathan Baker 3 – Poor aerial display and kept heading the ball to the opposition team. Just like Chester, he too couldn’t deal with danger.
Jordan Amavi 2 – The worst player on the pitch and at fault for two goals. The left-back simply cannot defend and needs to be axed.
Albert Adomah 5 – At times he was good, but in the final third he was dreadful. Should have scored in the second half.
Conor Hourihane 4 – When he tried picking out a pass, the former Tykes man did well but in truth his overall game was poor.
Henri Lansbury 5 – Mixed bag from the midfielder who had a good opening half an hour but failed to protect the defence and keep hold of the ball.
Jack Grealish 2 – Another poor game from the youngster. Grealish failed to provide any attacking threat and didn’t help out his defenders. Workrate is questionable.
Jonathan Kodjia 3 – When going forward with the ball, the attacking ace looks good on the eye. However, he is too selfish, has poor decision making and wasted too many opportunities. Hugely overrated.
Scott Hogan 4 – Didn’t really get in the game and wasn’t his fault that no-one attempted to give him the ball.
SUBS:
Birkir Bjarnason 5 – (for Hutton, 73mins)
Andre Green 6 – (for Lansbury, 73mins)
Leandro Bacuna 5 – (for Grealish, 76mins)
