Steve Bruce will have have taken plenty of positives from his Aston Villa side but will be frustrated that they were unable to earn all three points against former side Hull.

Villa managed only a 1-1 draw against the Yorkshire outfit despite controlling large periods of the match, without creating a huge amount of clear-cut chances.

Gabriel Agbonlahor gave the Midlands giants the lead in the first half at Villa Park before Jarrod Bowen levelled things up for the Tigers after the interval.

Bruce will have been delighted with the performance of goalkeeper and new signing Sam Johnstone, as he produced a number of saves that kept the likes of Abel Hernandez, Sam Clucas and Fraizer Campbell at bay.

The win sees Villa begin their campaign with a point as Bruce looks to secure a fifth career promotion from Championship to Premier League.
