Medical expert: Konsa may be forced to wear protective equipment after ‘severe’ Aston Villa blow

Ezri Konsa may have to wear protective equipment on his hip when he next features for Aston Villa.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Konsa started the 2-2 draw against Man United last Saturday (15 January) but was substituted off at the interval.

The 24-year-old centre-back was seen testing out a hip injury at half-time but quickly decided it was not feasible to play on.

Per Birmingham Live on Monday (17 January), manager Steven Gerrard said Konsa had taken a “severe whack” and was a doubt for the next game.

Villa are next in action against Everton on Saturday (22 January).

Dinnery claims there is a chance the Englishman could be fit to play, but he may have to wear padding on the site of his injury.

“It looked liked a hip pointer injury at the time,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“That’s right on the bone, very painful. Steven Gerrard has since confirmed that.

“It’s a case of pain management. These sorts of problems aren’t typically too much to worry about.

“It may be something that they can pad for the game to protect that area in case of another impact injury.

“But based on what we’ve seen and has been recorded, he’s got a fairly good chance of making a return for this weekend’s game.”
