Aston Villa told to complete Mauricio Pochettino deal after source’s update – expert
Frank McAvennie has suggested Mauricio Pochettino would be an upgrade on Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Pochettino might not want the “building job” that would come with taking charge at Villa Park.
On Saturday (24 September), sources told this site that Mauricio Pochettino is keen on the possibility of managing the Birmingham club as he plots a return to the Premier League.

On 29 August, this site also revealed that the Argentine was on the target list of the Midlands big hitters along with Graham Potter.
As Potter has now taken up the managerial job at Chelsea, it has left the door open for Pochettino should Gerrard leave Villa Park.
Pochettino is keen on finding the “right project” and has not limited himself to a Champions League club.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (24 September), the 50-year-old turned down an approach from OGC Nice in order to hold out for other opportunities in the future.
When asked if the former Tottenham boss would be an upgrade on Gerrard, McAvennie told Football Insider: “He’s a proven manager, he’s done it so of course he would.
“Would Pochettino want to go to Aston Villa? I know they’re a huge club but it’s a building job and I don’t know if he’d want that.
“I don’t like to talk about managers when they’re still in a job but it’s not looking good for Steven Gerrard.“

Aston Villa have won just two Premier League games under Gerrard so far this season.
They are currently 15th in the English top flight.
