Aston Villa transfers: Giants plot move for Mkhitaryan replacement – report

Aston Villa youngster Jacob Ramsey is reportedly being monitored by Italian giants Inter Milan as they seek to overhaul their midfield.

According to Italian outlet Interlive, the Serie A club views the 23-year-old as a potential successor to Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The 35-year-old Armenia international is out of contract in 2026 and will need replacing as the ex-Man United star is regarded as a key player by Simone Inzaghi.

Inter have identified Ramsey as the man to replace Mkhitaryan, regarding him as a player who could ‘explode’ with a high resale value.

With Ramsey’s contract due to expire in 2027, the report suggests the Serie A champions would be able to secure his signature for around €35million (£29.5million).

Football Insider revealed (September 4) that Villa were nearly forced to sell Ramsey earlier this summer to help ease their PSR troubles.

Ramsey broke into Aston Villa’s first team back in 2019 and has since gone on to make 127 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 13 assists.

Last season his development was somewhat halted by three separate injuries, meaning he missed a total of 27 games as Villa secured Champions League football for the first time since 1982-83.

The Englishman is yet to start a Premier League game this season, coming off the bench in each of Villa’s three so far and playing a grand total of 116 minutes.

Unai Emery’s side face a struggling Everton in their first game back from the international break as they aim for European qualification yet again this season.
