Aston Villa will be the ‘team to watch’ next season amid ‘massive’ claim – pundit

Frank McAvennie claims Aston Villa will be “the team to watch next season” after the club ended its poor run of form.

The former Villains striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has hailed Steven Gerrard’s impact at the club.

Villa beat Southampton 4-0 last weekend (5 March) before beating Leeds United 3-0 on Thursday (10 March).

These results came after a run of just two wins in eight Premier League games at the start of 2022.

McAvennie is delighted to see Vill have “turned the corner” and backed them to build again in the summer.

“From what I’ve seen Villa look to have turned a corner, which is great to see,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Everyone gets a win against Leeds these days but that Southampton win was an amazing result.

“They had a few tough weeks but they are back now. They might be on for a top-10 finish.

“That’s the minimum of where Villa should be, that is a massive club.

“I just hope they can keep it going until the end of the season and Gerrard is again given the money to strengthen.

“His signings have been really good so just let him do it again. I think they will be the team to watch next season.”

Villa now sit ninth in the Premier League.

They are next in action against sixth-placed West Ham on Sunday (13 March) as they look to continue their newfound form.
