Aubameyang becoming ‘real problem’ for Arsenal after horror reveal – Campbell

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s form could become a “real problem” for Arsenal if he cannot end his goalless streak, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted it is “worrying” to see the 32-year-old squander a number of opportunities in recent games.

As per OptaJoe on Twitter (6 December), Aubameyang has now failed to score in his last six Premier League appearances – his longest barren run since 2014.

In that time, the forward has amassed 15 shots for a total of 3.1 expected goals.

The 71-time Gabon international has scored four goals in 14 league appearances this season.

Campbell insisted he “can’t put his finger” on the reason for Aubameyang’s downturn in form at Arsenal.

“I’d like to think it’s just a blip – but it’s a big blip,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s Arsenal’s best striker, but I just can’t put my finger on why it’s not happening for him in front of goal.

“He’s getting some great chances at the moment, and he’s not taking them. You can blame Arsenal’s creativity only up to a point – but it’s worrying to see him not scoring some of those easier opportunities.

“The chance against Newcastle, it was incredible to see him miss that.

“It’s a long blip – it has to end really soon or it’s going to be a real problem for Arsenal.”

Arsenal

Aubameyang has netted 92 goals in 163 games since joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

The Gunners sit seventh in the Premier League and face Southampton on Saturday (11 December).
