Aymeric Laporte: Campbell issues ‘honest’ verdict after incredible Man City reveal

Man City defender Ruben Dias has overshadowed Aymeric Laporte since his arrival in September 2020.

That is according to former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Laporte’s achievements at the Etihad.

Laporte helped City keep a clean sheet on Saturday as they regained top spot with a 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

A £57million signing from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018, Laporte has won three Premier Leagues, one FA Cup and four League Cups in England.

When asked if Laporte’s form has gone under the radar, Campbell told Football Insider: “Laporte had his plaudits before Dias.

“Let’s be honest though, Dias has added a bit more to the defence since he has come in. He is the rock now. If Dias is fit, he starts.

“Laporte is a top player who can play multiple positions. He can play left-back and centre-back very well. He’s very good but Dias has given them an extra boost.

“City are champions and have challenged consistently over the past few years. Laporte has not gone under the radar. A lot of people know just how good he is.”

Laporte has made 33 appearances across all competition this season.

His contract at the Etihad runs until the summer of 2025.

In other news, an ex-Premier League referee has claimed this may be the real reason for Jack Grealish’s troubles at Man City.
