Ferguson reveals what Rangers must do after making Celtic look 'bang average'

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson believes Rangers need to show the “steel” they had in the second-half of Saturday’s 0-0 draw every week if they are to close the gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers dominated for long spells at Celtic Park and made Brendan Rodgers’ side look distinctly average despite the overwhelming gulf between the two sides.
A combination of poor finishing and top goalkeeping was all that stopped the Gers taking all three points and recording their first league win over their bitter rivals since 2012.
Ferguson also thinks Rangers deserve much more credit than they have received for their performance with some – including Brendan Rodgers – attributing Celtic’s poor performance to tiredness rather than anything Graeme Murty’s side done.
“The steel they showed in that second half against Celtic has to be the standard now,” Ferguson said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“It’s okay doing it against your closest rivals or the other top teams – but you’ve got to show that same commitment against the so-called lesser teams who’ll come to give everything they’ve got against you.
“Celtic have overwhelmingly been the top team in Scotland over the last 18 months yet Rangers made them look bang average in that second half.
“People keep going on about Celtic looking tired but let’s applaud Rangers’ performance because they deserved to edge that game.”
The Gers remain in third place in the Scottish Premiership – 11 points off leaders Celtic – as the league breaks up for its three-week winter shutdown.
The Light Blues travel to Florida later this week for a warm weather training camp before participating in the Florida Cup and facing Brazilian sides Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro.
Murty’s side return to domestic action on January 21st when they travel to face Highland League side Fraserburgh in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
