Bayern Munich on verge of Serge Gnabry agreement in January as announced lined up

Serge Gnabry has been a key player for Bayern Munich once again this season.

The former Arsenal and West Brom star endured a challenging spell in England in the early stages of his career, but he has since flourished after returning to his homeland.

Tottenham showed an interest in Gnabry back in 2024, but were ultimately unable to seal a deal, and links with a return to the Premier League have been fairly consistent in recent years.

The future of the Germany international has been shrouded in uncertainty in recent months ahead of his contract expiring next summer, and a major announcement is now being prepared.

Bayern Munich prepare Serge Gnabry announcement in the New Year

Newcastle were also tipped to sign Gnabry in 2024, but it now looks as though Premier League clubs will have to wait even longer before they are able to even contemplate bringing the star back to England.

The winger is now on the verge of a contract extension at Bayern, with journalist Florian Plettenberg suggesting via his X account that it is only a “matter of time” before the deal is confirmed.

The announcement of the deal is expected to come in the New Year, and the fresh agreement will keep the 30-year-old at the Allianz Arena until the summer of 2028.

Gnabry is now into his eighth full season with the German giants, and despite speculation that he could depart next summer, it now looks inevitable that he will remain in Bavaria for another few years at least.

Premier League return will never appeal to Gnabry

Gnabry has seen plenty of his teammates linked with the Premier League across the last few windows, but it is doubtful as to whether a return would ever actually appeal to him.

He failed to truly establish himself as a threat during his prior spell in the Premier League, and he now appears to have found the ideal setting to help him flourish as a player.

Gnabry has struck 98 goals for Bayern across over 300 appearances in all competitions, and unsurprisingly, he has picked up several trophies along the way.

The ex-Arsenal academy starlet has claimed six Bundesliga titles as well as lifting the Champions League trophy in 2019-20, and his team are expected to go deep into that competition every single season.

With that in mind, there is surely little reason for him to risk his reputation in the latter stages of his career, and attempt to return to an environment where it simply didn’t work out for him previously.
