BBC pundit makes bold Celtic prediction ahead of 2017-18 season

By Harvey Byrne

BBC pundit and former striker Steven Thompson has boldly predicted Celtic to complete a back to back treble for the first time in Scottish history.

The Hoops have become the dominant force of Scottish football since Rangers suffered administration and demotion in 2012, winning the last six Premiership titles.

Last season they showed their class further by winning each of the Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup without losing a single game.

Now, Thompson has told that he doesn’t believe Celtic ca go unbeaten again, but has predicted they will become the first ever club in Scotland to win the treble in two consecutive seasons.

“I think Celtic will win the league comfortably,” told Thompson speaking on BBC Sport Scotland’s Facebook Page on Friday.

“I’m going to chuck out early doors that Celtic will do the first ever back to back treble.

“They won’t go unbeaten, but I think they can get a back to back treble. It’s almost impossible to go unbeaten. You’re going to have a dodgy penalty. I can’t see that happening again, but the very first back to back treble.”

Celtic will kick off the 2017-18 season with a home clash against Hearts, who finished in fifth place in the last campaign.

The two clubs last met on the final day of the 2016-17 season with the Hoops running out 2-0 victors through goals from both Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will be hoping for a similar result on Saturday as they look to defend their league title.

However, they are likely to be without star Moussa Dembele for the encounter, who missed the midweek Champions League qualifying victory over Rosenborg through injury.

In other Celtic news, the Hoops made an offer for this Premier League attacker (not Roberts).
