BBC pundit predicts Celtic v Aberdeen
By Harvey Byrne
BBC pundit and former striker Steven Thompson has predicted a victory for Celtic in their Friday evening clash against Aberdeen.
The Hoops are currently preparing to travel to the Dons’ Pittodrie Stadium for a Premiership encounter which will see first take on second.
Both Celtic and Aberdeen have secured their final placings in the Scottish top-flight and both sides may rest players due to the important Scottish Cup final clash coming up at the end of the month.
But, ex-Rangers man Thompson has told he still expects Celtic to achieve a 2-1 away victory with the side focused on continuing their unbeaten run.
“I think Celtic win win the game tonight,” started Thompson speaking on BBC Sport Scotland’s Facebook page.
“What’s at stake in this game really? Aberdeen have got second place. You can say it’s a warm-up for the cup final to a certain extent, maybe.
“But, for me it’s all about Celtic keeping their unbeaten run going and I think they’ll do that this evening. Aberdeen are probably the only team you would say that could effectively beat them. They’re the best equipped to do that in my opinion, but I don’t think it’ll happen.
“I think Celtic have got the focus to go and win this game. Whether there will be changes or not, I mean last week we saw Celtic chuck in the two young guys who were excellent in the game. Whether they go back to bringing in their big guns again for this game I don’t know, we’ll wait and see, but I think Celtic will win the game, 2-1.”
Celtic have had a hugely successful first season under Brendan Rodgers and sit unbeaten in the Premiership table after 35 matches.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen are the team separating the Hoops from their third placed fierce rivals Rangers with nine points separating the Dons from the Gers.
Celtic have already achieved four victories over Aberdeen this season, scoring eight goals, while conceding just one themselves and they will be hoping for a similar result on Friday.
