BBC pundit predicts Rangers clash v Motherwell

By Harvey Byrne

BBC pundit and former Rangers striker Steven Thompson believes the Gers will run out a convincing 3-1 victory over Motherwell on Sunday.

The Glasgow club are preparing for their Premiership season opener which will see them travel to Fir Park to face Stephen Robinson’s side.

Both clubs had difficult last season’s with Rangers slumping to a third placed finish, while Motherwell finished in ninth, escaping the relegation zone by just three points.

Now, heading into the clash Thompson believes that the Gers are still a level above Motherwell and has predicted a comfortable start for Pedro Caixinha’s side, while insisting the jury is still out over the new-look squad.

“I think Motherwell are going to struggle this season,” started Thompson speaking on BBC Sport Scotland’s Facebook page.

“Rangers will win the game because they’re stronger than Motherwell. I think they’ll win 3-1, but again I’m not quite sure. The jury’s out. I need at least 10 games or so, maybe less to work out exactly what I think of Rangers’ side.”

Rangers last faced Motherwell in April at Ibrox, managing a 1-1 draw with Louis Moult bagging the opener before Joe Garner scored the equaliser in the second half.

Garner has since departed Glasgow for English Championship side Ipswich and the Rangers side currently preparing to take on the Well looks much more different than the one four months a go.

The Ibrox giants have brought in as many nine new players, while eight first team players have left and the new signings will be hoping to make an impact on Sunday.
