BBC pundits comments about ‘class’ are laughable given Rangers boycott

Former Rangers striker and BBC Scotland pundit Steven Thompson has laid into Rangers for refusing to send any to fulfill their media obligations following the 5-0 Old Firm defeat by Celtic – however, given the BBC’s refusal to send any staff to Ibrox to cover games it is utterly laughable.

Thompson thought that from a “class point of view” the Gers should have come out and congratulated Celtic after their were crowned Scottish champions for a seventh successive year.

“No, it’s not acceptable”, the former Rangers striker said on BBC Sportsound Extra.

“I thought it was a really poor decision from a class point of view, come out and say congratulations, well done Celtic.”

BBC Scotland has long refused to send anyone to Ibrox to cover games live or do any interviews after their chief football reporter repeatedly lied about the Gers and had his access withdrawn.

With the BBC continuing to boycott Ibrox it is an absolutely ludicrous position for one of their pundits to take when the Gers – wrongly – chose not to fulfil their obligations.

Had the Gers sent anyone along, nobody from the Beeb would have attended anyway so hammering them for not coming out sees ridiculous.

That’s not the say the Gers were right not to – they weren’t – but being hammered by pundits who aren’t allowed to attend Ibrox to cover games is crazy – even by Scottish football standards.
