‘Be careful what you wish for’ – Newcastle fans berate starter who ‘isn’t the answer’ after display vs Tottenham

Newcastle fans were left frustrated by Aaron Ramsdale in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham on 2 December.

Despite leading twice in the game, Newcastle couldn’t claim all three points against Spurs under the lights at St James’ Park.

The match saw another start for the future of Newcastle Lewis Miley, who Eddie Howe is keen to retain at the club in spite of interest from elsewhere for the youngster.

However, with Nick Pope missing for Newcastle through injury, fans were unimpressed by back-up Ramsdale who delivered an underwhelming performance.

Aaron Ramsdale showing flashes of Arsenal wobbles for Newcastle

Ramsdale left Southampton for Newcastle on loan over the summer, but has had to wait patiently to challenge for the number one spot under Howe.

Yet, Pope’s absence forced the ex-Bournemouth boss’ hand, giving the Englishman another start against the Lilywhites off the back of a comfortable 4-1 win against Everton.

However, the cracks he showed at Arsenal are beginning to come through on Tyneside after a less than convincing display in front of the home fans.

The number 32 came under intense criticism for his overall goalkeeping efforts against Spurs as he failed to make a single save, often calling on his defenders to get him out of tricky situations.

Similarly, Ramsdale was targeted for his role in Cristian Romero’s second goal in stoppage time as the defender’s mishit bicycle kick trickled into the goal.

It looked like the 27-year-old dived in slow motion to try and stop the shot, but was unable to reach the ball in time before it hit the back of the net.

Newcastle supporters were quick to address Ramsdale’s questionable showing, with one fan saying: “Ramsdale got nowhere near those shots. Pretty much two shots two goals and very soft in deed…Be careful what you wish for.” with another adding: “Ramsdale isn’t the answer.”
