Beale cited as Rangers director of football deal collapses – expert

Rangers fans told to “trust the process” as the club search for their next sporting director.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said the next sporting director at the club will need to be happy with manager Michael Beale being heavily involved.

The Light Blues have been in search of a successor to Ross Wilson after he left the club in April to join Premier League side Nottingham Forest as their chief football officer.

According to The Athletic (18 June), former Arsenal defender Steve Morrow is among the contenders for the vacancy at Ibrox.

The 52-year-old most recently worked for the Football association as head of player selection and talent strategy.

Prior to that role, Morrow worked as Arsenal’s head of youth development for five years.

On 15 June, Football Insider revealed that Atalanta technical director and former Gers player Carlos Bocanegra has ruled himself out of the running despite being interviewed for the role.

Hutton insisted the Gers will make the right decision with the appointment.

Obviously you have to search far and wide for the right candidate for the position,” he told Football Insider.

I do not know a lot about him but you would like to think that they have explored all avenues and if this is the right route to go down you have to trust the process.

I think that Michael Beale likes the idea of being really key to who comes in. He likes to be involved so whoever comes in is going to have to be able to work alongside him.

In other news, star striker could leave Rangers as two forward signings on the cards.
