Leeds first team coach James Beattie was at St George’s Park on Tuesday for the first day of his studies for a UEFA Pro Licence.
The FA revealed on their official website that Beattie was joined by a host of former professionals in a bid to upgrade his current coaching credentials.
The former Southampton and Everton striker was joined by Manchester United legends Nemanja Vidic and Nicky Butt, David James, Steven Reid and Jason Euell.
The licence is required for all managers who are aiming to work in the Premier League.
Tuesday was the first of three days of study to complete the foundation phase of the Advanced Youth Award and Module One of the Pro License.
Beattie’s only spell as a manager was at Accrington Stanley between 2013 and 2014. The club were notably fined £20,000 by the FA whilst Beattie was in charge due tohim not having the UEFA B license, which is required to be a manager of a League One or League Two club.
After leaving Stanley by mutual consent, Garry Monk appointed him as first team coach at Swansea in 2015.
Six months later Beattie left following Monk’s dismissal.
However, the pair were reunited again in the summer of 2016 when Monk was hired to take charge at Elland Road.
Beattie made 329 Premier League appearances in his career, scoring 90 goals in the process. He also has five caps for England, having made his debut in 2003.
