Ben Brereton Diaz: Sheffield United reach full agreement over signing – sources

Villarreal striker Ben Brereton Diaz will undergo his medical at Sheffield United today (4 January) ahead of a loan move, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the former Blackburn Rovers star has agreed full terms with the Premier League club to join them for the remainder of the season.

The deal has been finalised between the La Liga outfit and Chris Wilder’s side and Brereton Diaz will link up with the squad ahead of their FA Cup clash against Gillingham on Saturday (6 January).

The 24-year-old moved to Villarreal upon the expiration of his contract at Ewood Park in the summer and is expected to return to the Yellow Submarine at the end of the season.

His move to Bramall Lane will mean he will finally play in the Premier League after seven seasons in the Championship.

The Chilean international has struggled for minutes in East Spain having made just two starts in the league across 14 appearances.

Diaz is yet to score for his new side but earned his move to the Spanish top flight off the back of an exceptional campaign with Blackburn last season.

Across his career at Blackburn, Diaz scored 47 goals and made 16 assists across 177 appearances from the centre-forward and left-wing positions.

The Stoke-born forward made numerous appearances for England’s youth sides before switching his national allegiances to Chile.

He has since made 27 appearances for his country and has notched seven goals.
