Ben Davies told ‘it’s time to go’ after source’s Rangers update – pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers target Ben Davies will struggle for game time if he stays at Liverpool next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker suggested the pressure of playing for a “huge club” was too much for the centre-back.
On Monday (18 July), sources told this site that the Gers are set to finalise the signing of the 26-year-old with a medical booked.
Liverpool have sanctioned a deal worth around £4million with Rangers for the defender.
Davies has three years left on his contract at Anfield.
When asked if he thought the defender could fight for a place in the team next season, McAvennie told Football Insider: “If you’re two centre-halves are injured and you can’t get a game, you’re not going to get a game now that they’re fit.
“For me it would be time to go.
“Again, good players come to Liverpool, it’s a big club, expectations are so high and some players can’t live up to that. It’s not his fault, he might have the ability but never showed it.

“Some players do that when they go to a big club, they freeze and they don’t show their own talent. It’s not just the team, it’s the whole club. The size of the club is just huge so some people can’t handle that.
“Some people just can’t hack it and he’s obviously one of them. If you can’t get a game when the two centre-halves are injured, you’re not going to get a game now.“
