Ben Davies: Tottenham expert shares ‘terrible’ verdict after ’embarrassing’ MOTD 2 reveal

It is “embarrassing” that Tottenham can’t defend without Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp in the side.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham’s defence came in for much criticism after they lost 2-0 to Wolves on Sunday (13 February).

While analysing the defeat on Match of the Day 2, the programme revealed a stat that showed Tottenham have not conceded in the league when Dier, Hojbjerg and Skipp have started together under Antonio Conte.

None of the trio started against Wolves and one of the replacements, Ben Davies, failed to impress Wenham.

“Davies had been having a renaissance this season,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“But any suggestion that he could be our equivalent of Cesar Azpilicueta is a million miles away.

“He was terrible against Wolves. He was unreliable and back to being six out of 10 Ben.

“It’s just not good enough. It’s utterly depressing, to be honest with you.

“Match of the Day shared a stat that showed when Dier, Skipp and Hojbjerg have started together under Conte, we haven’t conceded.

“Without them, the floodgates open. It’s embarrassing. We are a club who were invited to join the Super League.

“Whatever you think of that idea, we were invited as a club who are seemingly better and bigger than all the rest.

“Then you see the defending against Wolves, it was insanity.”

Tottenham

Tottenham have now lost their last three Premier League games.

They are next in action against Manchester City on Saturday (19 February).
