Ben Doak stinks on debut, David Brooks shines – Bournemouth player ratings v Brentford
Bournemouth were knocked out of the EFL Cup by fellow Premier League outfit Brentford 2-0 on a disappointing night on the south coast.
Despite dominating the ball, Bournemouth could not break down a dogged Brentford outfit as they fell to an underwhelming defeat.
After Dango Ouattara signed from Bournemouth to Brentford, the Burkinabe came off the bench to face his former side, although it was Fabio Carvalho’s quick-thinking that took advantage of James Hill’s lapse in judgement to net the first goal.
A second from substitute Igor Thiago then put the game to bed in the second half as the Cherries could not break down the Keith Andrews strong rearguard.
Julian Araujo also did not cover himself in glory, getting a second yellow card late in the game, summing up a frustrating night for Andoni Iraola.
Julian Araujo hot-headed, Bafode Diakite composed
Dorde Petrovic – 5
The ex-Chelsea shot stopper endured a quiet game, making zero saves with both goals stemming from defensive mishaps out of his control. Hard to criticise him when he has been a superb signing so far for Iraola.
Julian Araujo – 3
The Mexican is still adjusting to life in England and it showed tonight with a very average defensive performance. Niggling challenges led to two yellow cards for his troubles as he received his marching orders.
James Hill – 5
Game of two halves for the Englishman having taken his eye off Carvalho for the first goal for Andrews’ side. Second half was still competing, winning the large chunk of his duels.
Bafode Diakite – 7
Hooked at half-time for Marcos Senesi but did little wrong during his 45 minutes. Likely taken off due to the Argentine’s experience in the domestic competition considering they were 1-0 down.
Julio Soler – 6
Similar to his Latin American counterpart Julian Araujo, the Argentine struggled defensively, but did look impressive going forward as he rattled the post with a deflected effort.
Justin Kluivert measured, Ryan Christie careless
Ryan Christie – 5
As always was all over the pitch but won just three of his eight duels during the match, losing possession on 17 occasions. The Scot must do better to protect the ball and win it back more efficiently moving forward.
Alex Scott – 6
Big fan of Alex Scott who always looks to make things happen on the ball when in the midfield. Attacking wise he delivered one key pass but defensively made an error which led to Brentford’s second goal.

Justin Kluivert – 7
Looked after the ball very well tonight, maintaining 95% passing accuracy with one key pass. Taken off on the 66th minute as he builds up his fitness again after niggling injuries.
Eli Junior Kroupi with much to learn, Ben Doak appalling
Ben Doak – 3
Worked hard but ultimately underwhelmed on his full debut for the Cherries. The former Liverpool academy graduate lost possession a whopping 10 times in 45 minutes, which saw him hooked at half-time.
Amine Adli – 5
The Moroccan could be an exciting player for the south coast side moving forward with his quick feet and tight dribbling. However he needs to improve his defensive game as he was frequently dribbled past.
Eli Junior Kroupi – 6
The 19-year-old has received a lot of praise as an exciting upcoming prodigy and led the line for Bournemouth against the Bees. Two shots during the game but didn’t really get on the ball due to the supremacy of the Brentford defence.
Substitutes
Marcos Senesi – 8
Subbed on at the break and delivered some excellent passing from the back, demonstrating his English top-flight experience. Perhaps should have had the nod over James Hill after he messed up for the first Bees goal.
Antoine Semenyo – 6
Long-throws and two key passes were all Antoine Semenyo could contribute to the match in 45 minutes as Iraola would have preferred to keep his talisman rooted to the bench.

David Brooks – 8 – Player of the Match
Lively in 24 minutes, creating one big chance, one key pass and producing three shots. This season should be ideal for the Welshman.
Evanilson – 4
Got proper stuck in during his 24-minute cameo but was extremely wasteful, missing one big chance and having four shots with two on target.
Tyler Adams – 6
In 16 minutes was not afforded much time to make an impact but every one of his passes reached their intended target.
