Benjamin Mendy tipped to land ‘£6m Man City settlement’ – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City could end up paying a settlement to ex-defender Benjamin Mendy.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested City could pay around half (£5.75million) of the £11.5million he is claiming.
In a tribunal earlier this month (14 October), Mendy claimed he is owed unpaid wages from when he was charged with rape and sexual assault in August 2021 and suspended without pay by City.
He was eventually cleared of the charges in 2023, the same year his contract at the Etihad Stadium expired.
The 30-year-old is now playing with Ligue 2 side Lorient.
Wyness claimed his “gut feeling” is that City will have to make a significant payment to Mendy.
Man City could pay half of Mendy’s £11.5m claim, says Wyness
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s an interesting employment law situation.
“He was cleared in court, so it’s a difficult one. I’ve got to take some advice from some employment lawyers about this.
“He frustrated the contract by not being able to train or play, during a period of time when he was in court.
“Man City may have jumped too early by refusing to pay out his wages, because he was found not guilty in the end.

“I think there’ll be a settlement.
“I think he’ll end up getting around 50% of what he’s claiming. That would be my guess, with the caveat that I’m not a lawyer or judge – but that’s my gut feeling.”
