‘Berta is back’ – Arsenal fans all say the same thing after Jurrien Timber news

Arsenal are completing yet another step towards future-proofing their squad, as Jurrien Timber is in talks over a new deal.

William Saliba was recently handed a fresh contract by Arsenal, in a move that supported Mikel Arteta’s mission to continually challenge Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

The Gunners have also handed new deals to stars like Leandro Trossard and Myles Lewis-Skelly since Andrea Berta replaced Edu as sporting director.

Arteta’s men are continuing to work hard behind the scenes, while Arsenal are vying to beat West Ham in their next Premier League game.

Jurrien Timber begins contract discussions with Arsenal

Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier exclusively told Football Insider that he thinks David Raya is the best goalkeeper in the top flight.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel reported via X on Friday, 3 October: “Arsenal open talks with defender Jurrien Timber over a new contract. Discussions at an early stage but will from all parties to agree to extend beyond existing deal that expires in 2028.

One Gunners fan responded to the news by commenting: “Andrea Berta is back to business, again” while another said: “That’s brilliant news. Timber is pure class, and the fact Arsenal are already moving to secure his long-term future shows how much they value him. It’s becoming harder to price players out of Arsenal, the culture, atmosphere, and winning mentality here are extraordinary.”

An Arsenal fan added: “Don Berta taking no chances. Still has 3 years and we’re already planning on extension.”

Another member of the Emirates Stadium faithful cheered: “Absolutely fantastic signing and player, rarely puts a foot wrong if ever, absolutely convinced we would’ve won the league the season he signed if he didn’t get that terrible injury.

One Arsenal fan said: “Make him the highest paid player at the club, as far as I’m concerned.”

Jurrien Timber and Ben White symoblise Andrea Berta’s transfer strategy

Berta has instilled a transfer strategy at Arsenal that actively encourages Arteta’s squad to have as much competition as possible.

Timber is a class act

Timber has proven he is a class act both in an attacking sense and defensively this term, by notching two goals and an assist in six Premier League appearances.

The 24-year-old is not a guaranteed starter, though, as Ben White is capable of challenging him for a spot in Arteta’s lineup.

Arsenal boast similar competition at left-back, as Lewis-Skelly is able to effectively rotate with Italy international Riccardo Calafiori, while summer signing Eberechi Eze can challenge both Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli for a position in the frontline.

Handing Timber a new contract will boost the Gunners’ chances of claiming Premier League glory in future years, while the additions of Viktor Gyokeres, Eze, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera have strengthened this season’s title credentials.

Former Sporting striker Gyokeres should be particularly keen to show that he can rival the likes of Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland in the golden boot race.
