‘Best for both parties’ – Celtic stand-out will only leave when it suits him and the club
Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney has claimed that the player will only leave the Hoops when a deal suits both him and the club.
The 20-year-old has been the subject of plenty of speculation about his future, with BBC Sport recently reporting that Atletico Madrid were set to watch him in the Scottish Cup Final.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers also recently admitted, as reported by the Scottish Sun, that wages offered by the likes of Atletico or clubs in England could tempt Tierney away from the Hoops.
But Tierney has dismissed the rumours, and has claimed that he will only leave the Hoops when both he and the club are satisfied with what’s on offer.
“I saw what the manager says, that if I move it has to be best for both parties; the club and me,” he said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“But he said it’s not the time now and I’m not thinking about it either. So I’m just happy playing here.”
Football Insider verdict
Hoops fans will be delighted with the attitude adapted by both Tierney and Rodgers, as they seem determined to keep the player in Glasgow for as long as possible. Tierney is one of the best young players in Britain, but judging by what Rodgers and Tierney have said it would take a massive bid to tempt away from the Hoops, who he is a big fan of. Of course, it is a tad unrealistic to expect the left-back to spend the entirety of his career at Celtic Park, and deep down Rodgers must know that the player will eventually leave the club, but by the time that happens Rodgers may no longer be at the club and it will be someone else’s problem. For the time being though, Tierney and Rodgers seem united and both parties will look to push on next season and give the Hoops an even better season than the one just finished, particularly in Europe.
