‘Season is nine months long’ – Cahill delivers verdict on Tottenham after Chelsea win title
By Aramide Oladipo
Chelsea defender Gary Cahill believes that his side have been the best team this season, despite being run close by Tottenham.
The Blues have been crowned Premier League champions for the second time in two seasons and they have the chance to win the double as they’ll face Arsenal in the FA Cup final at the end of May.
It’s been a spectacular turnout for Chelsea who experienced a hugely disappointing defence of their Premier League title last year as they finished in 10th position.
Under the guidance of Antonio Conte, the Blues managed to secure the title with two matches remaining and they can still finish the season with 93 points, the second highest points tally in the Premier League era.
Despite this great achievement, Tottenham have received the plaudits from critics, especially since they finished their final season at White Hart Lane with an undefeated record following their 2-1 over Manchester United on the Sunday afternoon.
Speaking with the Evening Standard, Chelsea skipper Cahill feels that Tottenham are a good side, but Chelsea are better.
Asked about winning the Premier League, Cahill said, “It is never a fluke. You have to be too consistently good over the course of the season.
“Tottenham have got a fantastic team and have been in great form. But consistently over the course of the season, we have been the better side,” the 31-year-old added.
“They have been fantastic over the last couple of months but the season is nine months long. It’s very difficult to keep doing it consistently.”
Gary Cahill will receive his second Premier League medal with Chelsea next week as he was also part of the squad that won the league under Jose Mourinho two years ago.
