Better than Coutinho: Three Tottenham players who could cause havoc against Liverpool
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Football Insider identifies the three Tottenham players who could cause havoc against Liverpool during their important Premier League encounter on Saturday.
The title chasers will meet at Anfield, hoping to close the sizeable gap opened by current leaders Chelsea.
Spurs are in second place nine points behind Antonio Conte’s side, while the Reds chances of chasing the London club look bleak as they are 13 points adrift.
These are the three Spurs players that could make the difference during the mouth-watering encounter:
Dele Alli
The England international has been in tremendous form this season and has shown in recent weeks that he is better than Liverpool’s star man Philippe Coutinho. While the Brazilian has played six fewer league games than Alli, the Spurs midfielders 11 goals this term have been quite outstanding for a player who has scored the same amount as Sergio Aguero. Coutinho has netted on five occasions but has not been himself since his return from injury.
Meanwhile, Alli has delivered the goods in the big games, most recently against league leaders Chelsea. The former MK Dons man will be a thorn to the Reds defensive backline as they will struggle to pick up his continuous runs from the middle of the park.
Harry Kane
One of Liverpool’s main problems this season have been their continued troubles in defence and Kane may well add to their misery. The England striker has notched up 14 goals this term and his aerial threat will be a problem for Jurgen Klopp’s side. It won’t be a surprise if Kane is notching up a few goals from set pieces, especially with Christian Eriksen’s dangerous delivery.
Furthermore, Kane’s work rate and willingness to work the channels will give the likes of Alli space to run into the box and feed off the service from Eriksen, Kyle Walker and Son Heung-Min.
Kyle Walker
Left-back James Milner will have his work cut out when Walker is constantly bombing down the right-hand side. His overlapping runs, ability to beat defenders with his pace and deliver a cross will be an area which could help Mauricio Pochettino’s side earn those valuable three points.
The Merseyside club will be looking to keep most of the ball during the game, while the north London outfit counters them on every mistake. This will bring right-back Walker into play and with the likes of Kane and Alli running into the penalty area added with Walker’s service, the Reds cannot afford to be caught out.
