Betting latest: West Ham clear favourites to seal Jan swoop for title winner from PL rivals

West Ham are clear favourites to sign Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in January, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

SkyBet have the Hammers priced at 4/1 to snap up Shelvey, 25, during the upcoming transfer window after the Sun reported that Newcastle would welcome a bidding war for the six-times England international in order to raise some funds.

Swansea (10/1) are second favourites to re-sign their former midfielder in January while West Brom (12/1) are also in the running.

Shelvey played a key role in helping Newcastle win the Championship title last season but has struggled to find a consistent level of form back in the Premier League.

He has made 15 appearances this term, but has not supplied an assist or scored a goal while he has been sent off twice in clashes against Tottenham and Everton.

The Sun reported that West Ham and Crystal Palace are interested in the midfielder from their Premier League rivals Newcastle in January in a bid to stave off the threat of relegation.

Shelvey joined the Magpies in January 2016 from Swansea and has made a total of 77 appearances and scored five goals.

He started on the bench in the 0-0 draw with Brighton on Saturday but could make a return to the starting line-up when the Toon travel to struggling Stoke on Monday.
