Betting update: New evens favourite emerges in Everton manager search as odds tumble

By Danny Wright

Watford manager Marco Silva is the new favourite to be named the next permanent Everton manager, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Labrokes have Silva, 40, priced as evens favourite to become Ronald Koeman’s successor, forcing current caretaker manager David Unsworth (5/4) down to second favourite.

Former Crystal Palace and England boss Sam Allardyce (9/2) has been falling further out of the running after revealing he had not held talks about the Goodison Park vacancy in the week.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, Silva’s odds had tumbled down to 6/4 as SkyBet had the Portuguese manager priced at second favourite.

Previously this week, the ex-Olympiakos and Hull boss was only fourth in the running at 12/1, with this latest betting update capping a stunning fall in prices for the Vicarage Road senior man.

Silva has done wonders at Watford since taking charge of them in the summer, and it seems as though even with him being just months into his new role, Everton have taken their fancy in the 40-year-old.

He oversaw Hull’s relegation from the Premier League last term but that didn’t stop the Hornets from being impressed by how close he came to save the Yorkshire club, who came close to an escape.

Caretaker boss Unsworth won his first of four games in charge since taking over from Koeman last weekend when the Toffees beat Watford 3-2 at Goodison Park, despite falling two goals behind.

In other Everton news, the Blues would have to stump up a seven-figure compensation fee for what is believed to be Bill Kenwright’s No 1 choice to take the job.
