Betting update: Rangers joint faves to swoop for PL forward in Jan after Celtic odds drift

Rangers are the new joint-favourites to sign Brighton winger Jamie Murphy in the January transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

BetVictor still have the Light Blues priced at 6/1 to land Murphy, 28, but Sheffield United’s odds have drifted from 4/1 to 6/1, making them level with the Scottish side in the running to sign the Brighton wide forward.

Celtic’s price has also drifted from 6/1 to 8/1 after a shift in the odds.

Murphy has struggled to force his way into Chris Hughton’s first-team plans at the AMEX Stadium ever since Brighton were promoted to the Premier League last season.

The Glasgow-born forward, who can play up front or out wide, has made just five appearances across all competitions in the Albion first-team and has been completely left out of the Premier League matchday squad since September.

The former Scotland youth international has bags of experience under his belt in both English football as well as north of the border after a previous spell at Motherwell where he made his professional debut.

Murphy is really struggling for first-team football though and could be someone who is moved on by Hughton in January if teams become interested in him.

When signing for Brighton in 2015, Murphy penned a four-year deal that is due to expire at the end of next season.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have a potential January firesale on the cards with these three senior players likely to exit Ibrox.
