‘Ridiculous’, ‘Send him back’ – Arsenal fans can’t believe new Viktor Gyokeres reveal that’s emerged
Viktor Gyokeres has done very little to comfort Arsenal fans as the big-money striker adapts to life in the Premier League.
Eberechi Eze was also criticised for his lack of impact during a short cameo against Liverpool on Thursday, 8 January, with the Gunners missing their chance to create an eight-point gap in the Premier League.
While both sides created chances, neither could take any of them, and despite the lack of clinical edge in the final thirds, Richard Keys has tipped Arsenal to still lift the league title come the end of May.
Some have already named Gyokeres as Arsenal’s biggest weakness, amongst a general lack of firepower, and that was highlighted by a “ridiculous” stat that emerged after the full-time whistle.
The Sweden international has now gone seven league games without registering a single shot, and with Benjamin Sesko hitting seven on target against Burnley, home fans are livid.

Viktor Gyokeres’ struggles are utterly blatant at Arsenal
Gabriel Jesus made a bigger impact against Aston Villa in a very small cameo, yet Gyokeres was still chosen to lead the line against Liverpool, a decision which appears to have backfired.
After a non-existent performance, being hooked on 64 minutes, one supporter has dubbed the striker “beyond pathetic” for his lack of shots, even wanting him sent “back to Portugal this summer”.
Supporters believe that “Eddie Nketiah is genuinely levels above” the failing striker, and very few can argue against it after another blank in front of goal, leaving him on five in the Premier League.
- @TheEllisScott: “He simply doesn’t do enough for me. I’m personally very disappointed in him, and the whole ‘he keeps defenders occupied’ argument doesn’t wash with me. It’s a cop out. He needs to improve. Otherwise, he’ll very quickly lose his place.”
- @JOE_Akir: “This guy is a total flop, but we are not ready for this discussion.”
- @nat90HJ: “Gyokeres is an absolute flop, but it goes unnoticed.”
Mikel Arteta should be concerned by Gyokeres’ full stats vs Liverpool
In his 64 minutes on the pitch, Gyokeres created just one chance despite making multiple runs forward, while making just eight touches before being replaced [FotMob].
He lost the only ground duel he entered into, losing possession twice [Sofascore], putting his team on the backfoot, and giving Arteta more questions to answer.
It has even been suggested that when Jesus and Kai Havertz are both back to full fitness, Gyokeres will be the third-choice striker at the Emirates, and by his performance, he probably should be.
Many were expecting him to be Arsenal’s version of Erling Haaland. To put it bluntly, those comparisons seem offensive, given that the Man City man already has 29 goals across all competitions.
The likelihood of the Gunners going back into the transfer market are extremely low, especially for another forward, but that could be their downfall in the race for the Premier League title this term.
