‘Big’ – Pundit suggests the real reason for Darwin Nunez struggles at Liverpool

Alan Hutton has suggested Darwin Nunez’s “big price tag” is part of the reason for his slow start at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said fans need to be “patient” with the 23-year-old as he settles in to life in a new country.

As quoted by the Guardian (3 October), Jurgen Klopp said he had a “long talk” with the striker to ensure he wasn’t “worrying”.

The Uruguay international started the 2-0 Champions League win over Rangers on Tuesday (4 October) but couldn’t find a way past Allan McGregor.

Hutton said it is difficult to move to a new country and play a new style of football.

Of course it is hard,” he told Football Insider.

He is away from everything that he knows, everything that is normal to him. He is in a new country, new faces. I know we are playing the same sport but it doesn’t feel the same initially.

It has been up and down for him. You think of the miss in pre-season and everybody was on his back. Then with the sending off, everybody was on his back. It is difficult with the big price tag, that is hard to deal with as well, especially for one so young.

So I think Jurgen Klopp was right, you have to be patient with him, allow him time to breathe and settle in. Liverpool play a different style of football to what he is used to.

So it is going to take him a bit of time to get familiar with it. So I think when that happens there is no doubt he can find the back of the net. Yes it is a lot of money but ultimately have to be patient with him.

In other news, a pundit can’t believe Jurgen Klopp could be sacked amid ‘lethargic and complacent’ Liverpool dig.
