Billy Gilmour cited after ‘big’ Liverpool player reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has insisted it is “brilliant to see” Ben Doak’s success for the Liverpool youth teams.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender said he would have liked to see Doak stay in Scotland.
The 16-year-old was on the scoresheet for the Reds’ under-19s in their 4-1 win over Rangers B in the UEFA Youth League.
As quoted by the Scotsman (3 October), Jurgen Klopp hailed the winger as a “big talent” and said that the Scottish game is “full of talent”.
Doak joined Liverpool’s under-18 side from Celtic this summer.
Hutton insisted it is good for the Scottish game to see young players doing well in the English system.
“It’s brilliant to see,” he told Football Insider.
“You look at the ones in the past, himself, Billy Gilmour, these guys. I would prefer to see them do it at Rangers and Celtic if I’m totally honest. If there was that pathway for them in to the first team it would make Scotland better and the team so it is a real shame.
“But, the flip side to that is that he has gone down, is playing at a high level, playing with some unbelievably talented players and managers so why wouldn’t you take that up.“

Doak has made eight appearances for the Reds youth teams so far across all competitions this season.
In those outings, he has scored four goals and provided three assists.
