Blackburn vs Oxford United postponement latest: Ewood Park in major trouble as new weather warning issued

Blackburn Rovers’ clash with Oxford United at Ewood Park on Tuesday is at risk of postponement amid expected harsh weather.

Ewood Park has already seen two games abandoned this season, with Blackburn’s match against Ipswich called off for heavy rain in September.

The home side had been leading through Todd Cantwell‘s goal in the 80th minute, but drew 1-1 after the full game was replayed.

Blackburn’s second match against Ipswich was also at risk of postponement, but the rain subsided and the match could finally be played.

But a familiar event would take place on Saturday, with Sheffield Wednesday‘s trip to Ewood Park abandoned after 62 minutes, again with the home side leading.

Weather warning threatens second consecutive Blackburn postponement

Sheffield Wednesday are facing certain relegation from the Championship this season, and Blackburn would have been frustrated not have to secured a three points that looked likely.

Yuki Ohashi had put the home side ahead in the first half, and a second goal was on the way when the match was stopped.

Blackburn could face a similar frustration ahead of Tuesday’s match against Oxford United, too. The U’s are 21st in the Championship and have won just one of their last seven games.

With the 19th-placed Rovers needing to get points on the board, Valerian Ismael will hope that the game is played.

Met Office yellow weather warning for the area surrounding Blackburn

The Met Office have released a yellow weather warning for Tuesday, however, with the area of concern completely engulfing Blackburn and the surrounding area.

There is also a yellow warning of wind that just avoids Ewood Park, but will only make the situation worse should it spread.

Blackburn release statement amid rising frustration

In a statement following Saturday’s postponement, Blackburn said that they “wish to thank supporters for their fantastic backing at Ewood Park”.

But fan frustration is growing. Whether they have travelled far or not, it is not fair for those in attendance not to know whether the game they are watching will finish or not.

The infrastructure at Ewood Park is dated, and whether the Venky’s will invest the money required to upgrade it remains to be seen.

Until then, both Blackburn fans and Oxford United fans will be attending Ewood Park on Tuesday night without knowing what time they will be heading back home.
