Borna Barisic facing Rangers axe after what expert has spotted

Alan Hutton has suggested Ridvan Yilmaz could replace Borna Barisic in the Rangers XI next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said Yilmaz is the kind of player that manager Michael Beale likes.

The 21-year-old was in the starting lineup for the third time in a league fixture in the 3-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday (13 May).

He replaced Barisic who was ruled out of the Old Firm clash after picking up a muscle injury earlier this month.

Yilmaz has made 12 appearances across all competitions for Beale’s side this season but has failed to dislodge his teammate from the starting XI.

When asked if the Turkey international could replace Barisic at right-back next season, Hutton told Football Insider:I think there is a possibility.

I actually thought he came in and played really well. The likes of [Rabbi] Matondo also showed why Rangers brought him to the club, [Nicolas] Raskin, [Todd] Cantwell were exceptional.

Yilmaz is very aggressive in his defending, 1v1 he is not shy about getting forward. There is room for improvement there is no getting away from it.

I think what Barisic has over him is his final delivery but that can be worked on and improved. I think that is the type of player that the manager likes, those with room for improvement.

Yilmaz joined the Ibrox club last summer for a reported initial fee of £3.4million.

The defender put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the club keeping him in Glasgow until 2027.
