Bournemouth's Marcus Tavernier transfer plan revealed as 'Everton scouts watch'

Bournemouth have no plans to sell Marcus Tavernier this summer despite lingering interest in the transfer window's closing stages.

The 27-year-old proved his worth for the Cherries once again as he scored the opening goal in their 2-1 defeat against Man City in Marco Rose's first competitive game in charge.

After an impressive campaign last time out in which he played a key role in Bournemouth qualifying for the Europa League, the midfielder has attracted a number of suitors.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Everton are big admirers of Tavernier and had considered making a late move to lure him away.

Scouts from a number of rival clubs, notably including Everton, are believed to have been keeping tabs on his performances with a move in mind since last season.

However, their hopes of reacahing an agreement in the closing stages of the transfer window have been dashed as he remains a crucial part of Bournemouth's plans.

How do Bournemouth feel about selling Marcus Tavernier?

Football Insider revealed on 11 August that Bournemouth are doing everything in their power to keep Tavernier at the Vitality Stadium beyond the summer transfer window.

The midfielder remains a big part of Rose's plans, while they are keen to keep their best players at the club ahead of their inaugrual Europa League campaign.

A number of star names have been allowed to leave Bournemouth over the last 24 months, and plans are now being put in place to avoid a similar situation this summer.

"It's going to be difficult for any club to sign Marcus Tavernier," Brown told Football Insider.

"I liked him when he was at Middlesbrough and he had a number of suitors in the Premier League, and now he's gone from strength to strength since he joined Bournemouth.

"I'd be surprised if Bourenmouth were looking to sell him, but Everton could make an offer to test their resolve and see whether he might be availble for a reasonable fee.

"Everton scouts have been watching him, and it's no surprise they have been impressed by what they have seen.

"But it seems like Tavernier is still a big part of the plans at Bournemouth, he played such an important role for them last season and that hasn't changed.

"So they'll be hoping to keep hold of him, especially when you look at players they've let go in the past, they want to move on from that.

"Of course there's going to be interest, but the key for Bournemouth is about keeping these players and proving that they can continue to make progress with them."

Could Everton make a move to sign Tavernier?

Everton are believed to be the most advanced of Tavernier's admirers, despite not being the only club keeping a close eye on his situation over the summer.

The Toffees are keen to bolster their squad in a number of key positions, and the midfielder's Premier League experience and recent displays have placed him high on their list.

Brown told Football Insider on 16 August that David Moyes is a big admirer of Tavernier and is one of the leading voices behind the Toffees' pursuit of a deal.

Everton made an enquiry about the 27-year-old's availability earlier this month, and while Bournemouth are reluctant to see him leave, there is a feeling a deal could be done.

Tavenier's work rate, energy and ability to drive forward in posession would make him an important asset under Moyes amid concerns about their current options.
