Brendan Rodgers: Celtic boss ‘unhappy’ after source’s new sack reveal

Brendan Rodgers is unhappy with the transfer business at Celtic since his return to the club last summer (2023), sources have told Football Insider.

The Parkhead boss has been dismayed by both the quality of signing he has been afforded and also with the size of the transfer budget he has received so far in his second spell.

Celtic drew 1-1 against Kilmarnock on Saturday (17 February), allowing Rangers to move two points clear in the title race and giving them the upper hand in the fight for the league.

Football Insider subsequently revealed on Monday (19 February) that the Hoops are not set to make a knee-jerk reaction on the future of Rodgers despite falling behind their Glasgow rivals.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Northern Irishman will expect more money to be made available if he stays in the role into the 2024-25 campaign.

Rodgers is likely to face an inquest if he cannot deliver a third straight title for Celtic – which would be their 12th in 13 years.

The former Leicester boss has been given 13 loan and permanent signings in the 2023-24 campaign.

However, Rodgers has asked questions about Celtic’s ambition with their most expensive signing this term – centre-back Maik Nawrocki – coming in at just £4million.

The Hoops’ record signing is the 2018 capture of now-Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard for a reported fee of £9million.

Rodgers has previously criticised the transfer activity at Leicester – who made just one signing in the summer of 2022, just months before the 51-year-old’s departure.

Celtic are next in action against Motherwell on Sunday (25 February).
