‘Ridiculous offer’ – Rodgers makes stunning transfer admission about Celtic star
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has stunningly revealed that Moussa Dembele could depart the Hoops in the January transfer window, especially if his side receive a “ridiculous offer”.
The player has been linked with Brighton recently, and the Scottish Sun has reported that the player’s agent took in Brighton’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Boxing Day.
Rodgers doesn’t want to sell the player, but admitted that if the money offered to the Scottish champions was right then Dembele or any other player would be sold, and that the lure of a big wage increase could make the difference to a player’s future.
“If there is something where a player can earn five times as much as what he’s on now, then it is very, very difficult to stop him, especially if you get a fee for a player” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I can never stand here and say someone is going to definitely be here because we can get a ridiculous offer and the player can be offered higher wages and want to go.”
Celtic star Dembele had a sensational first season with the Bhoys, scoring 32 goals including three in the Champions League group stages.
This season he hasn’t been as prolific due to injury problems, but has still scored eight goals including a Champions League group stage goal against PSG.
The 21-year-old was on the bench for the Hoops’ most recent league match against Dundee but came on in the second-half and he seems a certainty to start against Rangers in the upcoming Old Firm derby against Rangers at Celtic Park on Saturday.
The French under-21 international has a good record against the Bhoys’ oldest rivals, having scored five goals against them last season.
