Brendan Rodgers not ‘long-term’ option for Celtic as board’s new sack stance emerges
Celtic do not consider Brendan Rodgers as a long-term manager of the club, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, Scottish correspondent Daniel Bowers revealed that there have been too many on-field and off-field issues during Rodgers’ second spell at Parkhead, which could force the board into a decision.
It is believed that the board are likely to sack the former Leicester City boss if he fails to win the league this season, but his position remains under threat regardless.
While the Hoops are still firmly in the title race despite Rangers moving above them, frequent poor performances and dropped points have seen them lose their strong lead at the top of the table.
Brendan Rodgers is under threat at Celtic
They have failed to win three of their last six games in the league including their recent 2-0 loss to Hearts on Sunday (3 March) and 1-1 draws against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen in February.
Rodgers also failed to mount a successful Champions League campaign having finished at the foot of their group with just four points.
Sources told Football Insider last month (19 February) that the board are not set to make a knee-jerk reaction on his future, but questions will be asked this summer.
Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider (20 February) that Rodgers is “unhappy” with the quality of new recruits since his return to the club.
Celtic sit second in the league after their defeat against Hearts, but they are still only two points behind rivals Rangers after their loss to Motherwell on Saturday (2 March).
They are next in action against Livingston in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday (10 March).
