Brendan Rodgers tipped for sensational Celtic return amid ‘huge’ claim – expert

Brendan Rodgers would be welcomed back to Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie suggested Rodgers had wanted to see out the season before he left for Leicester City half way through the 2018-19 campaign.

The Celts are looking for a successor to fellow treble winning boss Ange Postecoglou after he departed for Premier League side Tottenham.

According the The Mail (11 June) the Hoops have held face-to-face talks with Rodgers about a return to Parkhead.

Club chiefs Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay are believed to have flown to Mallorca to discuss a potential move that would see Rodgers take charge of the Scottish champions.

The Northern Irishman’s exit the first time around did not go down well with fans and many wouldn’t care to see him return to the Glasgow giants.

But McAvennie is keen to see Rodgers back in the building.

It would not bother me because he is such a good coach,” he told Football Insider.

Celtic have got to understand that they are a huge club to everyone out there, worldwide. But in reality when it comes to the money down south you cannot argue with that.

I think even the most die-hard Celtic fans would agree.

I think Brendan wanted to stay until the end of the season [in 2018-19] but the job might not have been there at that point.

If they can get things sorted out I would welcome him back.
