Brendan Rodgers makes bold claim about Celtic ambitions, humiliating for Rangers
By Danny Wright
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he wants Celtic to win the Scottish Premiership by a huge 50-point margin.
The Hoops are already 27 points clear at the top of the league this season in their hunt to claim their sixth successive title.
Following Saturday’s 6-0 thrashing of Inverness in the Scottish Cup, Rodgers’ side are on a 30-match unbeaten run in domestic competitions and is hopeful of continuing that run even after the title is mathematically achieved.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the former Liverpool boss said: “Celtic have won over the last five seasons, but could we win in the best possible way?
“You can save money and win by ten points or spend money and win by 30. Well I want to win by fifty.”
Celtic have nine games remaining in the league this season and have the potential to pick up a further 27 points.
Their nearest rivals Aberdeen and Rangers both have 43 points, however the Dons have a game in hand on the two Glasgow rivals.
Rodgers’ 50-point target is unlikely to be achieved this season.
To do that Celtic must hope that Aberdeen and Rangers only pick up a maximum of four points in their remaining games, without considering other teams catching them – a very unlikely feat.
However, Celtic can begin their progress to winning all their remaining league games when they take on Motherwell next Saturday. If results go the way of the Hoops, they can secure a sixth league title.
Rodgers will then look to win the league next season by 50 points – a claim that is pretty humiliating to Rangers and their other rivals in the Scottish Premiership.
