‘Brentford backed to seal shock swoop for Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham exit’

Brentford have been told they would be ‘lucky’ to have Ange Postecoglou as their next boss after Thomas Frank joined Tottenham.

Postecoglou led Spurs to the Europa League title last season, but also steered the North Londoners to just 17th in the Premier League, and was consequently sacked by Daniel Levy.

Meanwhile, Frank’s Brentford exploits caught the eye of Tottenham, who will hope the 51-year-old can guide them to a more comfortable domestic season next term.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Brentford are set to appoint Keith Andrews, promoting him from set-piece coach to manager.

Brentford urged to make swoop for positive-minded Postecoglou

Brentford’s star player, Bryan Mbeumo, could follow Frank to Tottenham if the Cameroon international doesn’t join Manchester United.

Meanwhile, speaking live on talkSPORT [16 June], Dean Saunders believes that the Bees should be considering a move for the ex-Spurs boss Postecoglou.

He said: “We’re going to miss Ange. I actually like his character, he’s got a bit of personality.

“The team plays on the front foot. Why doesn’t he get the Brentford job? What’s wrong with that?

“Wouldn’t Brentford be lucky to have Ange?”

Postecoglou would not want Brentford job

In the unlikely event that Brentford direct their attention away from Andrews, and choose to make a shock swoop for Postecoglou, the Australian may not fancy the West London club’s managerial vacancy.

Postecoglou was inconsistent in his Tottenham tenure

The former Tottenham boss boasts an impressive appetite for winning trophies, and even ended the North London side’s infamous 17-year wait for silverware.

Meanwhile, despite the impressive foundations laid by Frank, perhaps Brentford are not a club that Postecoglou feels he can lead to trophy-winning success after the Dane’s exit.

Frank guided the Bees to promotion from the Championship in 2021 and has subsequently led them to two top-half finishes in the Premier League, including a 10th-place spot last season.

The 51-year-old has been so influential for Brentford that the West London side could find themselves in a relegation battle following his exit, which is not a situation Postecoglou will want to become involved in.

Meanwhile, as reported by talkSPORT [14 June], Postecoglou has been contacted by Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.
